Workshop: Storytelling through Origami

A two day long Origami workshop took place in December 2019 at the Dubolhati palace in Naogaon, BD. The workshop was part of the yearly residential art exchange program by Uronto.

The workshop was conducted by Asaduzzaman Rup. He is a visual artists from Bangladesh, who became enthusiast about origami and acquired a significant skill on miniature origami. Many of his work has been part of international origami festival in India and Japan, specially his origami Bengali fonts achieved honor and reputation in international arena.

The participants in the workshop were community people of all age, local kids from Dubolhati village, school students and kids from local cultural society in Naogaon city also the artists of Uronto who were part of the residency during then. Participants learned about basic folding and unfolding of paper, adopted skills to create various animal, insects, whistle, boxes etc. Then following the learning they were creating stories around the Dubolhati palace where origami objects like butterfly, grasshopper, flowers etc became part of the nature and the surrounding in various composition.

With profound guidance of Rup, the workshop took its course through interactive participation and performative installation in collaboration with local participants, specially the kids.
