The Tongue

Parboti Ar Shibh- Jhule Thaka Jibh

After the partition of Bengal in 1947, the landlords of Calcutta migrated to live in this part that is now known as Bangladesh. They were Muslims. Similarly, the Hindu families had gone to Calcutta. In this house, once upon a time, there used to live some people of a different religion, Hinduism, where later lived Muslims. Since the original owner was a Hindu family, the artists have tried to portray their religious practices by making a tongue at the top of the house which may recall their goddess ‘Kali’.

At the frontal wall of the ground floor, we see some graffiti made by the artists to indicate their attempts to reach the history of this house. Once there lived a different religious group of people whose memories are now gone by times cruel grasp.
