Creatures from myth and reality

A public art by artist Rangajib Roy during the 9th Episode of Uronto residential art exchange program in Dubolhati Palace in Naogaon, BD.

Artist explored the myth stories of the area and the natural composition around it. Roy is mostly interested in animal or creature shapes in his work, so here also he was trying to find out the living creature at the present time in the palace also the creature from the mythical narratives about the palace.

The most common myth story about the palace is that in this area the king saw a frog eating a snake and he took that as a good sign on the site and decided to built the palace here. Then in reality the most living creature is the bees. So combining these existences Rangajib created a installation of a frog with a snake in mouth and a giant bee-house in collaboration with local village boys. Artist took all the existing shapes and pieces around and assembled together in the most organic possible way.

Rangajib Roy is a visual artist from west Bengal, India. He is a painter, land artist as well as a sculptor. He mostly prefers site specific art. But regardless of the genres he tries to explore the medium to be the found material from the particular place he works.
