URONTO in South Africa

Sadya Mizan the founder of URONTO is going to be in South Africa embarking her research with the support of Travel and research grant from Foundation for Art Initiatives (FfAI) in Feb 2019. After a long pre-research, she decided to choose South Africa focusing on bellow elements:

  • Organizational Models and strategical planning
  • Sustainability of Arts Organizations and challenges
  • Interactive publications and Ideas
  • Possibilities and Accessibility of Art Archives.

Mizan says – South Africa is a land of very interesting combination of Art practices and communities. The Art history is not very much spoken from there to South Asia.  I am sure to find interesting organizational models which are not yet established in Asia region and may play a big role in the eco-system for the Art scene. It will also give a better understanding of a new regional practice to enrich my existing knowledge and create cultural exchanges between the two countries.

South Africa’s Art scene is Largely focused on Cape town and Johannesburg and some in Durban. Mizan is interested to explore all three places and implement the findings in possible future initiatives. Visual artists Network of South Africa- VANSA is her main coordinating team form South Africa.
