09 Feb Past Never Comes Back
This work is also done at Lakhutia Zamindar Bari in Barisal for the fourth episode of Uronto Residential Exchange Program. From its structure, it can be assumed that this house is over 300 years old. After the end of the Zamindari system, this house lost proper maintenance and is owned by BADC now.
We see that the plasters came off the wall in many places; the artist Sisir Thapa has filled those places by cow dung. He has worked on this project with the villagers. He was privileged to hear lots of stories from the villagers who drew many pictures, more like the icons, of a cow or home on the wet cow dung. When that cow dung became dry, the corner molds were taken off from the wall and was displayed through installation in the house. The main concept is that the past/past stories may reappear but don’t reoccur/can’t be recreated exactly the same way. From that point of view, the artist has attempted this work. It’s written on the floor that the past never comes back.
