08 Feb Graveyard of Books
This room of Kalikanando Chattopadhyay’s house was a library of that time. His descendants of the current generation are Joyonto and Jyoti Chattopadhyay’s families. It is heard from the family members that there used to be a big library, a zoo, and a museum of this house. Since the artists were always there in this house, such artistic elements were present.
We can see that nature devoured the library. There is no trace of a library or books rather trees and broken walls. Here the artists attempted to recreate the library with the help of school going students. They asked each student to bring one book that they won’t need in the future. The students came with books but they were not psychologically prepared to leave their books on such a place. They could not imagine this place a library that doesn’t have a roof. Then the artists came to a realization that the library was dead that can’t be a library of books anymore. Later they made this place a graveyard of books as that seemed the ultimate and unfortunate fate of this place.
