Uronto Artist Community, conceived by curator Sadya Mizan, is an Artist-Led Open Collective in Bangladesh, founded in 2012, in order to enforce a new organic platform for creative practitioners and researchers from all possible disciplines to collaborate and enhance their trans-disciplinary works to inspire local and Global community. As partner of Uronto, Art Aia – Creatives / In / Residence tells the story of the 8th and 9th Episode of a Residential Art Exchange Program to a global audience through a series of evocative videos and photos thanks to Google technologies revealing extraordinary details of the works created far beyond what is visible to the naked eye. The featured exciting artworks are What Remains, a scroll painting (Pattachitra) realized by Fouzia Mahin Choudhury painted using an ancient traditional style where Mythological narratives or folktales are inscribed on a cloth base surface with drawings created at the Dubalhati Palace in Bangladesh, In Between- a Public Art Installation by Davide Tagliabue and Adam and Eve- a Site-responsive Printmaking by Birgitta Volz, Dilapiated Fortune- a photographic story by Sounak Das, Postcards from Dubolhati- a hand painted postcard series by Saria Saguaro, Hold on My Friend- a site-responsive installation by Jewel Chakma .
URONTO is the pioneering online show on Google Arts & Culture among the other four stories from Bangladesh about liberation, partition and Jamdani. Curator of URONTO believes it is a motivating step for many other Bangladeshi practitioners and organizations.
As been said by actor and director Giovanni Morassutti: “I am thrilled to have been invited to collaborate with Google Arts & Culture. I am glad to show the Uronto Artist Community to an international audience. I hope users will enjoy this exhibition which is fundamentally a story about a Community that is making art a strong tool to change the way people look at everything. I am proud of collaborating with Sadya Mizan who believes that if Bangladesh loses a heritage building like The Dubolhati Palace its people lose a part of their sense of ‘belonging’. I am also delighted to partner with Google by sharing its mission to organize information globally and make it universally accessible to all. I believe it is a huge step towards an open and transparent society.”
