A photo poetry by Sounak Das during the 8th Episode of Uronto Residential Art Exchange program in Dubolhati palace of Naogaon District. The work also took a form of interactive installation with a complementing video projection in a corridor.
The walls stand in silence in a house where a king and his family once lived. Only the fading patterns and forms of the structure echo through the void. Talking about a time and it’s non-recorded existence; The forms of reminiscence walks us through the royal walls of history.
The rays of lights which travels through the doors, windows, balcony, ruins and the courtyards signifies the endurance of the Sanatan culture. The architecture and its design dates back to the 19th century which has several folk tales and traditional narrative. Questioning the skeptical presence of life; to be or not to be.
In these photographs, artist used the darkness of the palace at night, as an opportunity to highlight the haunting details and the transverse historic myth by using artificial light. By transforming the Palace in such manner, artist hope to preserve the mundane ambience and perennial leftovers of the time, its history, now and the transformation of space it used to be..
