09 Feb কোন টা ঠিক ? (which one is right?)

A small theater piece was written & directed by Kazi Toufikul Islam and his team from the theater group Prachyanat in Dhaka and was performed in collaboration with local cultural workers from Zahir Rayhan Film Society from Naogaon, BD.

The theater piece was conceptualized through the oral narratives form the site and the mythical narrative in the community in Dubolhati village. it was a attempt to bring all the content in one platform and put it open in the audience to let them identify the reality. Also to reactivate the indoor theater platform that the Palace already had but never was used anymore after being abandoned since 1971/72.

The participating theater performer from Prachyanat other than Toufiqul Islam Emon, were Rocky khan, Shahin Saidur, Tahadil ,Shamim Srabon and the performer form the local film society Zahir Rayhan were Khorshed Alam Raju, Firoz Hossain, Polash Kumar Das, Poritosh Shaha, Sharifuzzaman, Sakib Islam.

After this first collaborated theater experience, the local film society formed a new wing of theater under there cultural club, called Natya Shoily. They wish to do more theater performances to revive lost narratives of their local culture through this new initiative.

The entire theater was designed and constructed with easy sourcing very local materials and masks made with paper mash and simple elements.

The theater performance opened a entire new possibility for the palace for the community to create more interactions even after the artists and performers left the place.

Kazi Toufikul Islam is a theatre professional and activist from Bangladesh. Works with reputed theatre school in Bangladesh called “Prachyanat” and also teaches at Scholastica School in Dhaka.
